About the job
Ember is on the lookout for a motivated individual to assist in the design and expansion of our innovative network. In this pivotal role, you will identify route opportunities, create efficient timetables, and leverage data to optimize every aspect of our network. While previous experience is valuable, your ability to think critically, apply practical solutions, and maintain high standards is paramount.
About Ember
At Ember, we are revolutionizing public transportation by making it more convenient, affordable, interconnected, and environmentally friendly. Our mission is to provide a superior travel experience that surpasses the convenience of personal vehicles.
Unlike traditional bus operators, Ember operates as a tech-centric company. We have developed a comprehensive platform that manages our entire operations, from vehicle monitoring and charger management to ticket sales and ETA calculations. This technological edge allows us to utilize electric buses more efficiently than anyone else globally, contributing to a significant reduction in emissions while enhancing passenger experiences through features like demand-responsive stops.
As a growing startup with a limited number of routes and 98 buses, we face the exciting challenge of scaling operations 50 times while remaining efficient and delivering an outstanding product. Having recently secured Series A funding from top climate-focused venture capitalists in Europe, we are seeking passionate individuals eager to join our mission.
The Role
This position offers a broad, hands-on opportunity where you will engage with the full lifecycle of a route, from identifying opportunities on a map to launching and continuously improving them. As part of a small team, you will have significant ownership of your projects and will be expected to independently resolve challenges as they arise.
Identifying new routes requires in-depth research using Google Maps, evaluating existing transportation options, engaging with local communities to understand their needs, and conducting real-world tests of your ideas. You’ll also need to be aware of our fleet's capabilities and charging infrastructure to balance aesthetic route designs with asset efficiency, recognizing that the ideal route on paper may not always be the best in practice.
We take a data-driven approach to timetable creation, moving away from traditional static schedules to probabilistic models that factor in variations in stop usage across different days, weeks, and seasons. You will be responsible for designing these timetables, navigating council consultations, and ensuring compliance with Traffic Commission regulations.
