The Lead Principal DC Power Installer (Level 4) at distro in Springfield, Illinois serves as the senior technical expert for DC power deployment. This role oversees complex Tier IV installations and manages major brownfield retrofit projects. Final responsibility for Quality Assurance (QA) rests here, ensuring every installation, whether by internal staff or outside contractors, meets strict standards for safety, reliability, and engineering precision.
Main Responsibilities
- Engineering & Design Validation: Review 'Issued for Construction' (IFC) drawings to confirm accurate load calculations, cable routing, and thermal management before any equipment is unpacked.
- MOP Approval: Provide final sign-off on Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for Levels 1-3, including risk assessment for 'Hot Work' and contingency planning for emergencies.
- Standardization: Define and maintain installation manuals, labeling systems, and torque specifications that set the 'Gold Standard' for data centers worldwide.
- Project Leadership: Lead live -48V DC facility replacements, keeping data center operations running and N+1 redundancy intact throughout the process.
- Vendor Management: Serve as the primary technical contact for OEMs such as Vertiv, Schneider, Eltek, and for third-party electrical contractors.
- Conflict Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve complex grounding loop and electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues.
- Compliance & Forensic Audit: Conduct root-cause analyses (RCA) and post-mortem reviews of installation failures or near misses, reporting findings to executive leadership.
- Final Commissioning: Oversee Integrated Systems Testing (IST), simulating full utility power loss to test DC plant and battery backup performance.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Build and deliver training programs for Levels 1-3, including hands-on assessments for technician advancement.
- Safety Advocacy: Hold 'Stop Work Authority' on-site, empowered to halt operations if any unsafe or technically flawed process is identified, regardless of project deadlines.
