Legal Counsel - Full Time, ESOP
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic Legal Counsel to establish and lead our legal operations from the ground up. You will play a pivotal role in working alongside our leadership team and various departments to manage all legal affairs, with a strong emphasis on commercial objectives.
As our first legal hire, you will have the opportunity to develop and scale the legal function within a fast-paced, global AI startup. You will be the primary legal advisor for all AudioStack matters, including commercial contracts, employment law, intellectual property, compliance, and global data privacy regulations.

What You'll Do
- Oversee the review, negotiation, and execution of all commercial agreements (licensing, partnerships, NDAs, etc.)
- Create scalable contract templates and processes to enhance deal flow while managing risk effectively
- Act as AudioStack’s Legal Counsel, advising executive leadership on corporate governance, investment matters, and employment law
- Establish and uphold comprehensive internal legal documentation and contract management systems
- Develop and implement compliance policies related to AI ethics, GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018
- Provide guidance on data privacy matters across various jurisdictions (UK, EU, US) as both data controller and processor
- Stay informed on the evolving regulatory landscape surrounding generative AI and intellectual property, proactively advising on risk mitigation strategies
- Engage with external bodies, regulators, and policy stakeholders to influence the future of AI legislation
Requirements
- Qualified commercial lawyer with training from a prestigious law firm
- 5–10+ years of legal experience, ideally with in-house exposure, preferably in a startup or scale-up environment
- Extensive experience in commercial law with a proven track record of swiftly closing complex agreements
- Familiarity with legal frameworks in the US and EU, especially in privacy, commercial contracts, AI, and intellectual property
- A generalist mindset, enthusiastic about exploring new areas including employment law and IP
- Strong interest in technology, AI, or industries focused on intellectual property
- Pragmatic, hands-on, and business-oriented , someone who thrives in a dynamic environment
