This role primarily focuses on pro-life litigation and advocacy, reporting directly to the Senior Counsel, Director of the Center for Life.In this vital role within the Center for Life, your contributions will save lives by protecting unborn children and their mothers against the dangers of abortion. Additionally, you will defend pro-life advocates actively engaged in frontline efforts. Your responsibilities include litigating civil actions emphasizing constitutional claims, such as those under the First Amendment and 42 U.S.C. § 1983, collaborating with states to uphold their pro-life legislation, drafting trial and appellate court documents, and presenting cases in court. You will also mentor junior attorneys in civil litigation, conduct essential legal and factual research, and engage with media regarding pertinent cases and issues.Key Responsibilities:Lead and litigate complex cases supporting unborn children and their mothers while defending pro-life advocates.Formulate strategies, arguments, and testimonies for case presentations.Conduct legal research and prepare necessary court filings.

This role requires a collaborative spirit, as the Legal Counsel will foster outreach and alignment with allies focused on legislative and policy matters, both at the federal and state levels. The Legal Counsel will also be an integral part of the government affairs team responsible for legislative reviews and educational programs.Furthermore, the Senior Counsel will closely collaborate with the Center for Free Speech and the Global Censorship Group to develop legislative strategies that align with their objectives. This position will emphasize providing legal guidance on issues related to free speech, government censorship—both domestic and international—private sector censorship (including online platforms and professional associations), state-private censorship collusion, artificial intelligence implications, and strategies to safeguard speech and expression across technology, online platforms, financial services, and the broader business and professional landscape.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvocate for and coordinate support for ADF’s positions on governmental policies and legislation, particularly focusing on free speech, government censorship (domestic and foreign), and private-sector censorship across various platforms.
