Qualifications

Requirements:Strong understanding of architectural and natural environment composition, scale, and structure. Knowledge of gameplay readability, player navigation, and visual guidance principles. Experience optimizing levels for real-time engines (e.g., LOD, draw calls, streaming). Proficient in modeling modular environment assets. Familiarity with Maya and/or Blender. Experience with material blending and vertex painting systems. Proficient in Unreal Engine or similar real-time engines. Experience with Substance Painter/Designer. Understanding of physically based rendering (PBR) workflows and material standards. Strong attention to detail and consistency with the project's artistic style. Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Nice to have:Knowledge of material optimization techniques for real-time engines. Basic understanding of lighting principles and experience with lighting adjustments in real-time engines. Experience with procedural tools like Houdini is a plus. Experience working on shipped titles.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and enhance environments to improve gameplay readability, player navigation, and visual storytelling.
  • Ensure levels meet the project's quality standards and artistic direction.
  • Collect and organize reference materials for environment assets.
  • Adhere to studio pipelines, naming conventions, and asset management protocols.
  • Construct and modify modular environment assets to develop architectural and environmental settings.
  • Prepare visual breakdowns, reference boards, and asset lists as needed.
  • Provide production and artistic support to the Lead Level Artist.
  • Integrate environment assets and textures into levels.
  • Collaborate with Tech Art and Design to optimize levels for performance (including draw calls, LODs, streaming).
  • Establish asset properties related to visuals and performance (LODs, collisions, materials).
  • Assist in bug fixing and visual refinement throughout production and testing phases.
  • Assess level quality within the engine and implement necessary enhancements.
