What this role offers
Each project features distinct tasks; contributors may be required to:
- Craft innovative material engineering challenges that replicate real-world engineering processes;
- Develop problems that necessitate Python coding for solving engineering calculations and simulations;
- Ensure that problems are computationally demanding and utilize numerical methods or iterative approaches;
- Create issues that involve system design, optimization, and analytical assessment;
- Base challenges on genuine research dilemmas or practical applications from the field of engineering;
- Verify solutions using Python alongside standard engineering libraries;
- Clearly document problem statements and supply verified correct answers.
What we seek
This opportunity is ideal for material scientists and engineers with Python experience who are open to part-time, project-based work. Preferred candidates will possess:
- A degree in Material Science or a related discipline;
- Proficiency in Python for numerical validation; familiarity with MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, domain-specific libraries, Stata, or knowledge of any programming language may be considered equivalent;
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience, whether in applied projects, research, or teaching;
- An understanding of practical engineering limitations and approximations;
- Exceptional written English skills (C1+).

Project time commitment
For this project, tasks are anticipated to require approximately 10–20 hours per week during active phases, based on project needs. This is an estimate and not a guaranteed workload, applicable only while the project is active.
Compensation
Contributors can earn up to $76 per hour, depending on their contribution level and efficiency. Compensation may vary across different projects based on the scope, complexity, and expertise required.
