Oklo is hiring a Materials Engineer to join the team in Santa Clara, CA, or remotely. This role shapes the foundation of Oklo’s advanced nuclear systems by guiding material choices that must perform reliably in challenging environments, including sodium-compatible seals and high-radiation structural components.

Role Overview

The Materials Engineer will own the material selection process for Oklo’s reactor systems. This position sits at the intersection of design engineering, materials science, and regulatory engineering. The engineer will serve as a technical authority, making decisions and building systems that help Oklo scale its approach to material selection across the company.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and execute the materials selection and governance process for reactor systems, focusing on prompt, safe, and standardized decisions.
  • Develop and maintain Oklo’s preferred materials database and related tools to keep material knowledge organized and accessible.
  • Serve as a technical authority for material selection by:
    • Formulating and presenting recommendations for new materials.
    • Evaluating requests to deviate from preferred materials and advising on risks and trade-offs.
    • Guiding teams toward proven, scalable, and defensible solutions.
  • Assess new materials for use in reactor systems, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
