Qualifications & Requirements5 to 10 years of experience in mechanical inspection, ideally within a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) environment. Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. Strong comprehension of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, mechanical utilities, and equipment installation. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and method statements effectively. In-depth knowledge of international mechanical codes and standards. Excellent documentation, reporting, and communication skills. Detail-oriented with a proactive approach and the ability to resolve technical issues efficiently.

About the job

The Mechanical Quality Inspector plays a crucial role in upholding the integrity of all mechanical installations on-site. This includes HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and mechanical equipment installations. The inspector ensures compliance with approved drawings, specifications, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and project quality procedures. The role requires conducting daily site inspections, assessing material and work inspection requests, and collaborating with engineers and contractors to ensure the highest standards of mechanical quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections to verify that mechanical work complies with ITPs, checklists, and project specifications.
  • Identify and report deficiencies or non-compliance in mechanical installations to the Quality Control (QC) Manager for necessary corrective actions.
  • Close Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) and Material Inspection Requests (MIRs) after obtaining required approvals and ensuring all documentation is complete.
  • Thoroughly review project specifications, mechanical drawings, Project Quality Plans (PQP), ITPs, method statements, and relevant quality documents.
  • Witness and document testing of mechanical systems, including pressure and leakage tests, and complete the associated records.
  • Monitor contractor practices to ensure adherence to mechanical quality control and safety standards.
  • Conduct daily meetings with the contractor's QC representative to align on mechanical quality management procedures.
  • Assist the construction team in addressing mechanical quality challenges and technical issues.
  • Support the Quality Manager in executing mechanical-related quality audits.
  • Prepare daily QC reports for submission to the QC Manager by 9:00 AM the next day.
  • Ensure all mechanical testing tools and devices have valid calibration certificates.
  • Maintain logs of WIRs, MIRs, Material Approval Requests (MARs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and other mechanical quality documentation.
  • Report any mechanical miscoordination issues between disciplines to the Resident Engineer and Quality Manager.
