About the job

Are you eager to explore and innovate the boundaries of Artificial Intelligence (AI) while developing groundbreaking applications?

At the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR), you will have a unique opportunity to unleash your ideas and creativity as a Research and Development Engineer in Artificial Intelligence. We employ AI to tackle complex technological challenges and are seeking an AI expert to enhance our team's capabilities.

Your Responsibilities:

As an R&D Engineer specializing in Artificial Intelligence at NLR, you will gather and apply knowledge from various forms of AI.

AI and Data Science are increasingly pivotal in managing complex aerospace systems. The intelligent integration of diverse techniques across disciplines is key. For example, you might utilize synthetic data generation to create realistic simulation data for training purposes, integrate NeRF with AR/VR and spatial computing for enriched simulations, or implement RAG in conjunction with large language models to enhance virtual assistants.

Your goal is to solve complex AI problems and continuously improve existing solutions. This could involve working on one of our in-house knowledge projects or addressing specific inquiries from our external stakeholders. In collaboration with your team lead, you will define how to expand and apply this knowledge, leveraging your expertise in the research and development of tools aimed at enhancing human performance with complex systems.

Key Activities Include:

  • Investigating AI solutions for specific problems and providing expert advice;
  • Identifying the needs of end-users and other stakeholders, translating these into integrated, actionable solutions;
  • Carrying out substantive project tasks, contributing to technological advancements, and ensuring that knowledge and prototypes are delivered to stakeholders;
  • Initiating new projects, actively identifying relevant opportunities and developments for our end clients, and translating these into concrete, executable initiatives.
