Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of the Veritas Prep team, Middle School Science Teachers are instrumental in fostering scientific reasoning and academic self-assurance in our students, preparing them for success in high school, college, and beyond. In this role, you will teach two classes of approximately 27 students, collaboratively working with colleagues across various subjects to ensure both academic success and a positive classroom atmosphere.

Your duties will include designing and delivering engaging, rigorous science lessons that meet grade-level standards, helping every student, regardless of their background, cultivate a deep understanding of scientific concepts and apply them to real-world challenges. Together with your co-advisor, you will nurture a vibrant classroom culture that welcomes students of all identities, ensuring they feel safe, valued, challenged, and supported in pursuing ambitious objectives.

At Veritas Prep, we are committed to excellent instruction, strong relationships, and teamwork as foundational elements for achieving equitable outcomes for all students. Your role is pivotal to this mission.

In this position, you will:

  • Implement consistent school-wide routines and systems that enhance learning time and maintain an orderly learning environment.
  • Utilize high-quality instructional materials, including OpenSciEd, to develop students' critical scientific thinking skills.
  • Collaborate closely with your science team to adapt and refine curriculum based on student performance data while aligning on best practices.
  • Leverage student data to inform instructional strategies, provide focused support and interventions, and promote academic growth during class and intervention sessions.
  • Lead a daily seminar that emphasizes college and career readiness, including goal-setting, self-advocacy, collaboration, and responsible decision-making.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning into daily instruction and interactions with students.
  • Establish trusting relationships with students and maintain active communication with families to bolster student success.
  • Embrace inclusive and culturally responsive teaching practices that affirm students’ identities and foster a sense of belonging.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and school leaders to problem-solve, support student needs, and cultivate a strong team culture.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the school Principal or manager.

We firmly believe that outstanding teaching, nurturing relationships, and effective teamwork are essential for achieving equitable student outcomes. Your contributions in this role will be key to advancing that vision.
