About the job

About Halo Industries

Become a vital part of Halo Industries, a dynamic company at the forefront of revolutionizing the semiconductor sector with cutting-edge laser technology. Established in 2014, and backed by substantial funding in 2024, we are dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that significantly minimize waste and enhance material performance across diverse industries, including automotive, telecommunications, and power electronics.

Your Role

As an Operations Excellence Intern, you will play a crucial role in our transition from a startup to a high-volume manufacturing powerhouse for Silicon Carbide (SiC) wafers. You will lead efforts to validate the process of SiC wafers from raw ingots to finished substrates, optimizing work-in-progress (WIP) flow, enhancing capacity, and driving down costs. Utilizing data-driven strategies, you will identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement through Six Sigma methodologies such as Value Stream Mapping. Your contributions will help refine our Operation Method Sheets (OMS) and eliminate waste throughout the operational process.

Key Responsibilities

Lean Manufacturing Optimization:

  • Value Stream Mapping (VSM): Create comprehensive maps of our SiC manufacturing flow to pinpoint lead-time drivers and identify process inefficiencies.
  • Extended Time Studies: Conduct in-depth longitudinal studies across shifts, from raw ingot characterization to post-wafer CMP polishing, to establish accurate baseline capacities and model them within our Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • OMS Validation: Evaluate our Operation Method Sheets against actual floor operations to ensure that documentation aligns with high-tech fabrication standards.
  • Process Optimization: Detect 'Muda' (waste) in operator movements or idle tool times and propose data-backed improvements to the Director of Operations.
  • Best Practice Documentation: Collaborate with seasoned technicians to capture and standardize high-efficiency workflows.
  • Model Enhancement: Develop scalable models for Cycle Time, Capacity, and Throughput that evolve as we increase production volume.

Training and Validation Initiatives:

  • OMS Standardization: Spearhead a comprehensive project to unify all Operation Method Sheets into a visually engaging format that includes specific Eyelit MES step references and error-proofing guidelines.
  • Competency Development: Design a training framework for critical processes, including assessments to ensure operators demonstrate true proficiency rather than mere document familiarity.
  • Systems Integration: Oversee the digital integration between Arena PLM and Eyelit Operations, ensuring seamless data flow.
