About the job
Elmhurst University seeks part-time adjunct faculty to join the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry starting in late August 2026. Instructors will teach undergraduate courses, which may include lectures and laboratory sessions in general chemistry, biochemistry for pre-nursing majors (General or Organic and Biochemistry), or general education chemistry. Depending on experience and credentials, teaching organic chemistry labs for science majors may also be available.
Department context
The department supports 40-50 chemistry and biochemistry majors and a similar number of minors each year. Faculty also teach and mentor students from related disciplines such as biology, nursing, exercise science, physics, and environmental studies. Elmhurst University’s chemistry and biochemistry programs are endorsed by the American Chemical Society. The department places a strong emphasis on supporting a diverse student body and preparing graduates for a range of scientific careers.
What you will do
- Teach undergraduate chemistry and biochemistry courses, including both lectures and labs
- Engage with students in and outside the classroom, providing mentorship and academic support
- Apply evidence-based teaching methods and incorporate current topics and techniques into course and lab design
- Encourage active learning to help students build skills for modern laboratory work
