Strong leadership skills with a track record of effective crew management. Comprehensive understanding of handling large tows. Capability to respond swiftly in unforeseen situations. Ability to utilize critical thinking and decision-making skills in tow building and locking operations. Willingness to work away from home for extended periods. Adept at functioning in a fast-paced maritime environment. Commitment to teamwork and appreciation for diversity. Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels. Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook and Internet Explorer. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Valid Driver’s License required. Must obtain or possess a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card. Radar endorsement required. Must hold a Master of Towing Upon Western Rivers certification.

About the job

  • Ensure safe operation of crew, vessel, and tow by adhering to Ingram's comprehensive safety guidelines and policies.
  • Engage in safety drills and audits to maintain high safety standards.
  • Oversee the Mate and Deckhands, collaborating closely with the Captain and shore-based management.
  • Guarantee safe and efficient navigation of the vessel by following the established “rules of the road.”
  • Exhibit excellent seamanship and boat handling skills.
  • Ensure compliance with US Coast Guard regulations and environmental laws, both personally and with the crew.
  • Exemplify leadership qualities that inspire trust and confidence among crew members.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively based on crew members’ roles and skills.
  • Assist in evaluating crew performance.
  • Contribute to the training and development of deck crew members.
  • Steer the tow both up and down river as required.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned.
