Essential Job Functions:Building and managing complex Excel models using VBA for portfolio management functions. Exploring and understanding risk, return, and liquidity concepts to enhance portfolio management. Conducting model building and analysis using built-in functions and custom models developed in Python/R. Data retrieval and wrangling utilizing MySQL and Python/R; knowledge of PowerBI is a plus. Communicating model outputs internally, including assumptions and limitations. Engaging in discussions about model merits and analyses internally. Demonstrating an independent and efficient working style with the ability to develop big-picture ideas and translate them into actionable code and model outputs. Creating presentations for both internal and external stakeholders, articulating portfolio strategies and investment decisions.

Position Overview:

The Portfolio Management Analyst at StepStone in La Jolla will be responsible for supporting the maintenance, development, and debugging of the Daily Valuation Engine (DVE). This role includes maintaining software audit trails and managing the market data feeds utilized in calculations for daily funds, including SPRIM, STRUX, STPEX, and Horizons. Collaborating closely with the portfolio management and investment teams, the analyst will evaluate investments dynamically for risk, return, liquidity, and allocation targets across multi-asset class portfolios. A strong financial acumen is essential to support and construct analyses tailored to portfolio construction needs. This role requires a broad skill set and an entrepreneurial mindset, with opportunities to work with the Data Science, Research, and SPAR teams to collect, clean, and interpret data. Additionally, the analyst will suggest relevant models and metrics pertinent to portfolio management and liquidity, developing impactful models while effectively communicating assumptions and complexities internally.
