About Arc Institute
The Arc Institute is an innovative scientific institution dedicated to curiosity-driven basic science and technology development aimed at understanding and treating complex human diseases. Based in Palo Alto, California, Arc operates as an independent research organization, collaborating closely with renowned institutions such as Stanford University, UCSF, and UC Berkeley.
While traditional university research models have achieved remarkable successes, we firmly believe in the power of institutional experimentation to catalyze progress. Our unique approach includes:
- Funding: Arc provides comprehensive funding for Core Investigators’ research teams, freeing scientists from the usual limitations of project-based external grants.
- Technology: With the increasing complexity of biomedical research, our Technology Centers focus on developing and optimizing cutting-edge experimental and computational technologies in partnership with Core Investigators.
- Support: We are committed to delivering exceptional operational, financial, and scientific support that empowers researchers to undertake ambitious, high-risk projects aimed at significantly advancing cures for diseases like neurodegeneration, cancer, and immune dysfunction.
- Culture: We prioritize cultivating a scientific culture that values curiosity, a steadfast commitment to truth, broad ambition, and collaborative spirit.
With a growing team of over 350 individuals and $650M+ in committed funding, the Arc Institute is poised for rapid expansion, backed by a state-of-the-art lab facility in Palo Alto.
About the Position
The Jain Lab seeks motivated, diligent, and inquisitive candidates. Our research focuses on the interplay between organisms and their environments, specifically how factors such as oxygen levels and nutrient availability influence metabolism and disease progression. We have recently identified that chronic hypoxia, akin to living at high altitudes in Peru or Nepal, may offer therapeutic benefits for mitochondrial diseases.
