We are seeking multiple talented Power Grid Dynamics Engineers to engage in innovative research focused on power system modeling and simulation, analysis, planning, operational resilience, and lab testing of devices and integrated systems. In this role, you will contribute to LLNL’s Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience (CIR) program, which is dedicated to enhancing electric grid infrastructure. You will collaborate on research projects funded by the Department of Energy, the State of California, and various private sector partners. These positions are situated within the Computational Engineering Division (CED) of the Engineering Directorate.
Depending on your specific role, you may have the opportunity to work in a hybrid schedule that combines in-person and virtual work arrangements, allowing for flexibility to work from home on certain days.
Positions will be filled based on your expertise and relevant experience, with specific responsibilities assigned according to the level for which you are hired.
Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct research in power grid dynamics modeling, transient stability, and electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation.
- Present both formal and informal updates on research progress during group meetings.
- Develop independent research initiatives that complement team efforts and engage with a diverse range of scientists both within and outside the Laboratory.
- Assist in crafting grant proposals and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment to achieve research objectives.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities at SES.2 Level:
- Support complex research projects with competing priorities and implement advanced research concepts in a multidisciplinary team environment where commitment to deadlines is critical for project success.
- Publish research findings in external peer-reviewed scientific journals and participate in conferences and workshops.
- Engage directly with sponsors and partners and contribute to the growth of new program initiatives.
