Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE or equivalent) or operating at chartered level, demonstrating leadership and professional authority. Significant experience in delivering complex civil infrastructure projects, preferably involving data centres, mission-critical operations, or large-scale developments. In-depth knowledge of planning, highways, drainage, and utility approval processes. Demonstrated success as a Design Lead or Principal Technical Authority within multidisciplinary teams. Proficient understanding of BIM modelling, processes, and experience with collaborative platforms.

AECOM is on the lookout for a talented Principal Civil Engineer to lead technical initiatives across a variety of data centre projects. This role encompasses everything from site due diligence evaluations and master planning to detailed design execution and construction support. Your expertise will be pivotal in fostering business expansion, nurturing client relationships, and enhancing AECOM’s civil engineering proficiency within the data centre realm.

As part of our Civil Engineering Business Unit, you will collaborate with a diverse team of professionals, including geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, MEP engineers, architects, project managers, environmental specialists, and surveyors, both in the UK and internationally, all contributing to our extensive data centre project portfolio.

In the Data Centres Market Sector, you will serve as a representative for AECOM, delivering expert civil engineering insights across the EMEA region and within our global teams. You will play a crucial role in ensuring technical excellence and robustness across disciplines, particularly for major technology clients, while supporting AECOM's standing in the Hyperscale and Co-location data centre markets.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic civil engineering leadership and technical governance for data centre projects, ensuring adherence to AECOM standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Review, approve, and manage civil engineering infrastructure designs and specifications, crafting practical solutions for site development, earthworks, drainage, pavements, access, utility infrastructure, and related civil engineering tasks associated with data centres.
  • Collaborate with fellow civil engineers and technical specialists to support the delivery of our data centre project portfolio, including ground engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, project managers, architects, and environmental consultants throughout the UK and our global business.
  • Enhance client engagement, contribute to business development, engage in strategic asset planning, and provide thought leadership within the sector, all while mentoring and nurturing civil engineers to elevate technical proficiency and delivery excellence within the Data Centres sector.
