Extensive experience conducting hydrological assessments in consultancy or regulatory settings. In-depth knowledge of UK hydrological guidelines (e.g., FEH methods, Flood Estimation Handbook, EA guidance). Proficiency with hydrological modeling tools and data analysis software. A proven track record of leading projects and providing technical oversight. Chartered status (CEng, CSci, or CEnv) or actively pursuing chartership. Exceptional communication skills with experience in engaging clients and stakeholders. You should also be self-driven, capable of working independently when necessary, possess a strong commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to thrive within a dynamic, deadline-oriented team.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Principal Hydrologist to join our vibrant and multidisciplinary Water Team. This position offers the flexibility of being based in one of our UK or Ireland offices, alongside the benefits of our hybrid working model.

As a pivotal team member, you will play a crucial role in the execution of transformative water projects both in the UK and internationally. Your expertise will lead hydrological assessments that will shape flood risk management, major infrastructure planning, water resource strategies, and environmental permitting.

This senior position blends technical proficiency, client interaction, project management, and team leadership within a rapidly expanding water division.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Direct hydrological assessments to support flood risk evaluations, infrastructure designs, catchment strategies, and environmental impact studies.
  • Provide expert guidance on rainfall-runoff modeling, river flow assessments, climate change considerations, and catchment analysis.
  • Review and supervise hydrological modeling outputs, ensuring adherence to quality standards, accuracy, and compliance with UK regulations.
  • Serve as the technical lead on significant frameworks and multidisciplinary projects spanning transport, energy, water, and development sectors.
  • Advise clients on flood risk policies, drainage strategies, abstraction licensing, and environmental permitting prerequisites.
  • Mentor and nurture junior hydrologists, promoting technical excellence and the sharing of knowledge.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, including bid submissions and client relationship management.
