EducationM. S. or Ph. D. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Process Systems Engineering, Control, or Dynamics.orB. S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with a proven track record of achievements in relevant areas. ExperienceMinimum of 3 years’ experience in process engineering or control engineering within the chemical or energy sectors (industrial internships or research experience are acceptable for advanced degree holders). Technical ProficienciesStrong foundation in process control fundamentals, including dynamic modeling, process identification, and optimization. Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Aspen DMC, or Python for modeling and control system analysis. Familiarity with process safety systems and alarm management, alongside ISA standards (ISA 18.2, ISA 84, ISA 101). Knowledge of key chemical process unit operations, including distillation, heat exchange, reaction, separation, and fluid transport. Preferred Knowledge AreasExpertise in model predictive control (MPC), multivariable control design, or using machine learning in process control. Experience with industrial automation platforms such as Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa CENTUM, or Rockwell ControlLogix.

This position serves as a vital link between classical process control engineering and the forefront of digital transformation, demanding both analytical prowess and creative application of control principles to intricate chemical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement optimized control strategies for both continuous and batch chemical processes.
  • Develop dynamic process models, both first principles and empirical, to accurately simulate plant behaviors and assess control performance.
  • Tune, maintain, and troubleshoot various control loops, including regulatory and advanced solutions such as PID, cascade, feedforward, and inferential.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, R&D, and IT teams in the deployment of model predictive control (MPC), real-time optimization (RTO), and digital twin technologies.
  • Assist in process hazard analysis (PHA), management of change (MOC), and the design of safety interlocks (SIS logic).
  • Utilize statistical tools and control system data to analyze plant performance, identifying bottlenecks and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Mentor junior engineers on control concepts and automation systems.
