About the job

Atomic Semi is building a compact semiconductor fabrication facility in Austin, aiming to streamline chip production by adapting proven technologies with practical simplifications. The company brings together engineers from mechanical, electrical, hardware, software, and process backgrounds, all focused on hands-on problem solving. The Austin lab is equipped with a wide array of fabrication tools, including 3D printers, microscopes, e-beam writers, and custom-built equipment to support technical goals.

Founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller, Atomic Semi values smaller, faster, and self-built solutions to advance chip manufacturing.

Role overview

The Process Development Engineer will design and run experiments for new semiconductor and thin-film fabrication techniques. This position requires a strong grasp of standard semiconductor processes and an interest in exploring alternative methods. Reading, analyzing, and applying findings from academic literature will be a regular part of the work.

The role offers significant autonomy in a startup environment. The engineer will help shape research directions and influence tool design. Hands-on cleanroom experience is essential, as is a track record of developing nanofabrication recipes from scratch, ideally spanning multiple process steps.

Team approach

The Process Development Team at Atomic Semi leads in-house device innovation by designing and optimizing tools, developing new fabrication recipes, testing materials, and characterizing chips. The team values experimentation and rapid iteration, setting it apart from traditional foundries.

Location

This position is based at Atomic Semi’s Austin office.
