Role Overview: Product Design Manager

Design shapes every product at OpenAI. The team’s goal: make advanced AI approachable, intuitive, and visually engaging. The Product Design Manager will guide the creation of user experiences that are both practical and forward-thinking. This person will help define product vision and nurture a strong design culture across the organization.

Working from OpenAI’s San Francisco headquarters (relocation assistance is available), the Product Design Manager will lead designers and collaborate with partners across disciplines to build foundational features for both enterprise and consumer products. The role involves steering the team through evolving technology and design challenges as OpenAI’s products and systems grow.

What You Will Do

Lead design work and shape product strategy for core systems such as Payments, Identity & Access, and developer or research tools within the OpenAI ecosystem.
Set and uphold high standards for design quality, ensuring experiences are cohesive and build user trust.
Manage and mentor a team of product designers, encouraging craftsmanship, ownership, and strong performance.
Maintain consistency and alignment in design across complex, interconnected systems.
Identify and prioritize shared capabilities to help OpenAI’s ecosystem scale effectively.
Work closely with engineering, product, and research teams to shape both long-term direction and near-term plans.
Use research and user insights to deeply understand user needs and drive ongoing product improvements.
