About the Role
As a Project Manager for Industrial Builds on our Design & Construction team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting OpenAI’s research, scaling, and manufacturing initiatives. Your leadership will be crucial in overseeing mission-critical construction projects characterized by complex engineering design and extensive interfacing. You will be responsible for technical coordination across MEP, civil/structural, and architectural scopes, ensuring the timely and budget-compliant delivery of intricate build-outs.
This position is based in San Francisco, CA, with regular travel to project sites as needed. We operate under a hybrid work model, encouraging three days in the office per week, and we offer relocation assistance to new team members.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Lead the comprehensive execution of various infrastructure and facility construction projects, including advanced computing facilities, laboratories, testing environments, and production spaces.
Manage detailed project estimating, budgeting, and financial analysis to ensure fiscal accountability and operational efficiency, including securing capital funding.
Engage and coordinate with external partners such as architects, contractors, construction managers, and other consultants to successfully deliver critical projects within expedited timelines.
Collaborate closely with internal teams including Real Estate, Operations, Corporate Security, IT/AV, EH&S, and Finance on project-related matters.
Work in partnership with the Leasing team on site selection, providing due diligence and cost forecasting to facilitate site acquisition.
Cultivate relationships with internal clients and executives to drive engagement, alignment, and well-informed decision-making.
Oversee technical due diligence for each project, which may encompass technical assessments, Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) coordination, utility requirements, and feasibility studies.
Guide the development and review of concept designs that align with stakeholder programming and inform design development.
