The Opportunity

We are actively searching for a Regulatory Counsel to enhance our Ethics and Compliance team, focusing on our trade controls program across US and EMEA operations. This role will involve providing strategic counsel on global trade regulations, including export controls and sanctions, while also addressing emerging regulatory challenges in the realms of AI, cloud services, and digital infrastructure (inclusive of data center operations).

Your responsibilities will include collaborating across various departments such as product, engineering, sales, and operations; coordinating with external counsel on complex regulatory issues; and having the autonomy to influence our strategy regarding regulatory challenges. As a remote-first organization with a diverse team, you will need to be adept at working across different time zones and cultural contexts.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance on US export control (EAR) and sanctions (OFAC) compliance, along with EU/UK export controls and sanctions as applicable, for AI cloud infrastructure services, including assessing license exceptions and deemed export considerations.
  • Offer legal insights on escalated restricted party screening matters and advise on regulatory risks related to business partner onboarding and transaction reviews.
  • Guide on export classifications, licensing evaluations, jurisdiction and classification, deemed export compliance, and access of foreign nationals to controlled technology.
