S. states.
As a member of Waymo's Legal team, you will navigate the intricate legal landscape surrounding our groundbreaking autonomous driving technology, propelling our business initiatives from the innovation phase to large-scale commercial deployment. You will collaborate closely with experts in public policy, safety, security, and privacy to shape transportation policies that govern the future of autonomous driving. Your role will involve advising on regulatory updates to safeguard our global user base while working in tandem with engineering, product, strategy, and operations teams to develop and protect our intellectual property and facilitate corporate and commercial transactions. You will also ensure adherence to a complex and evolving array of global regulations and proactively manage high-profile legal challenges.
In this hybrid role, you will report to the Managing Counsel for Regulatory, Policy, and Product.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate a vision and strategic framework for compliance with various regulations, including interpreting existing legal frameworks that may not address our innovative technology, and advising on new laws relevant to autonomous vehicles and related technologies.
- Provide guidance on regulatory matters at local, state, federal, and international levels, with a focus on the UK and the EU (e.g., assessing requirements for operating in new territories, legislative review, and drafting proposed legislation).
- Participate in cross-functional planning to ensure regulatory compliance is integrated into project timelines.
- Address novel legal inquiries across diverse topics, including those that may be unfamiliar to you or the organization.
- Advise on proposed legislation and regulations, facilitating negotiations among stakeholders.
- Team up with our Policy department to devise advocacy strategies for engaging with regulators and policymakers.
