THE ROLE

As a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant at VEG, you will be at the forefront of emergency veterinary care from day one. Your responsibilities will include providing support to your team, comforting pet owners, and gaining invaluable real-time experience in triaging, treatment, and care. This role is a stepping stone for your career, whether you aspire to become a credentialed technician or explore your passion in veterinary medicine.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome and support incoming patients by assisting with triage and directing them to appropriate care.
  • Provide nursing care, assist with treatments, and perform diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
  • Collaborate with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians during anesthesia and sedation procedures.
  • Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
  • Support patient care in various areas, from examination rooms to treatment zones.
  • Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
  • Receive training to become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer in CPR.
  • Progress to more advanced responsibilities as you gain experience and confidence.
