Role Overview

Title: SAS Design Engineer (Automation & Control)
Location: Dammam, Saudi Arabia
Experience: Minimum 5 years in SAS Design & Engineering

Main Responsibilities

Review project specifications, identify design inconsistencies, and resolve technical conflicts.
Prepare initial designs and detailed engineering documentation for Substation Automation Systems (SAS).
Manage design approvals and submissions, working closely with clients and stakeholders.
Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and clients throughout the design process up to FAT and SAT.
Oversee procurement of SAS components, including vendor evaluations and technical negotiations.
Design and configure SCADA/HMI systems (such as Zenon).
Engineer and integrate IEDs, BCUs, gateways, Ethernet switches, firewalls, NTP servers, and related devices.
Work with communication protocols including:
- IEC 61850 (MMS/GOOSE)
- IEC 60870-5-101/104
- DNP3, Modbus
Implement network redundancy protocols (RSTP, PRP, HSR) and time synchronization (SNTP, PTP).
Lead technical activities related to SAS design, engineering, and integration.
Participate in FAT, IFAT, SAT, testing, and commissioning.
Ensure proper transfer of as-built documentation, drawings, and SCADA database backups.
Work with OT cybersecurity systems, including Active Directory, WSUS, Antivirus, NMS, and backup solutions.
Follow Saudi National Grid SAS standards (TES, TCS, TMSS specifications).
Support SAS prequalification and prototype design for National Grid projects.

Essential Qualifications

Significant experience in Substation Automation System (SAS) Design & Engineering.
Proven involvement in Saudi National Grid or utility projects.
Skills in:
