About the job

About Arc Institute

The Arc Institute is a pioneering scientific organization dedicated to curiosity-driven basic research and technology innovation aimed at understanding and treating complex human diseases. Located in Palo Alto, California, Arc operates as an independent research entity, collaborating closely with Stanford University, UCSF, and UC Berkeley. Our mission is founded on the belief that transformative research initiatives can be greatly enhanced by innovative institutional models.

While traditional university research has achieved significant breakthroughs, we emphasize the need for institutional experimentation to further advance science. We provide:

  • Comprehensive Funding: Arc fully finances Core Investigators' (PIs') research teams, freeing scientists from the usual constraints of project-based funding.
  • Advanced Technology: As biomedical research increasingly relies on sophisticated tools, our Technology Centers are dedicated to developing, optimizing, and deploying cutting-edge experimental and computational technologies in partnership with Core Investigators.
  • Exceptional Support: Our goal is to offer unparalleled operational, financial, and scientific assistance to empower researchers in pursuing ambitious, high-risk projects that can significantly impact disease treatments, including neurodegeneration, cancer, and immune dysfunction.
  • Collaborative Culture: We recognize the critical role of culture in scientific achievement and strive to cultivate an environment that prioritizes curiosity, integrity, broad aspirations, and collaborative spirit.

With over 350 professionals on board and more than $650 million in committed funding, our state-of-the-art laboratory facility in Palo Alto is set to expand rapidly in the years ahead.

About the Position

We invite applications for a highly proficient Scientist specializing in functional genomics and single-cell sequencing to join our Virtual Cell Initiative. This initiative is pioneering the development of foundational models designed to accurately predict cellular states and responses to interventions. In this pivotal role, you will lead the creation of extensive single-cell perturbation datasets across over 50 cancer cell lines, essential for training our Virtual Cell models.

Your responsibilities will encompass the entire experimental workflow, from mammalian cell culture and large-scale CRISPR screening to single-cell library preparation and sequencing. This role not only demands technical expertise but also the ability to drive scientific innovation.

About Arc Institute

The Arc Institute stands at the forefront of scientific research, committed to innovative approaches in the battle against complex diseases. By fostering collaborations with leading universities and providing robust support to researchers, we aim to reshape the landscape of scientific inquiry and discovery.
