Large language models and conversational interfaces are emerging as vital conduits of knowledge, serving as intermediaries between audiences and trusted sources of information.
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager who will lead The Economist’s strategy regarding generative AI and conversational platforms, ensuring that AI systems present, summarize, and interpret our journalism accurately and responsibly, adhering to our editorial standards.
Role Overview
The Senior Product Manager for Generative AI & Conversational Platforms will be responsible for how The Economist is represented, queried, and interpreted across various AI-native and conversational environments.
This role will treat AI ecosystems, including LLM-based assistants, agent systems, and AI-powered discovery platforms, as unique products with distinct dynamics, technical needs, and success metrics.
A key focus will be on managing LLM connectors and retrieval experiences. This encompasses defining and refining schemas, interfaces, and protocols that enable AI systems to:
- Accurately query The Economist’s content
- Retrieve relevant materials with the necessary context
- Base responses on authoritative sources
- Clearly and consistently attribute and cite journalism
You will engage in capabilities akin to MCP-style integrations, tool and function calling, retrieval pipelines, grounding, and citation mechanisms.
