About the job
Mission Summary:
The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Test Engineering team at Motional is dedicated to ensuring the safety, functionality, and performance of our cutting-edge self-driving technology through meticulous system-level testing. As a Senior AV Test Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the strategy, planning, and execution of extensive test campaigns that encompass perception, planning, and control systems across virtual, closed-course, and public road environments.
Motional is in search of a highly skilled and driven Senior AV Test Engineer to become part of our AV Test Engineering team. Your primary focus will be on validating the commercial readiness of our robotaxi service by conducting rigorous testing of our self-driving technology.
This position requires a proven technical leader capable of steering test development, fostering continuous improvements of our infrastructure, and maintaining high standards for release readiness and safety assurance as we progress toward mass deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of comprehensive validation campaigns targeting Perception, Planning, and Control systems utilizing simulation, SIL, HIL, and on-vehicle environments, specifically focusing on scenarios critical for robotaxi reliability and rider experience.
- Oversee test execution and documentation to uphold the highest standards, ensuring compliance with safety-critical benchmarks (ISO26262, ISO21448 (SOTIF)) and emphasizing Operational Design Domain (ODD) limits and safe fallback procedures.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance a robust, scalable test infrastructure and automation frameworks using Python, Shell, and relevant platforms to facilitate high-volume, fleet-wide software rollouts.
- Act as a technical lead for scenario-based testing (utilizing tools like Applied Intuition) and AV capability campaigns, concentrating on end-to-end mission performance and service uptime.
- Service Readiness Validation:
- Design and implement testing for essential non-driving features such as rider interactions, remote assistance handoffs, fleet operations protocols, and over-the-air (OTA) update verification.
