What We Are Looking For:A degree or equivalent qualification in Business, Engineering, Law, or a related field. Extensive experience in commercial management within infrastructure, defense, social infrastructure, or commercial sectors. A proven track record in leadership roles with commercial and operational responsibilities. A strong grasp of construction/professional services procurement, contracting models, and professional services frameworks. Solid understanding of benchmarking, pricing, and delivery models across the mentioned sectors. Proficient in negotiation and dispute resolution. Exceptional communication skills with outstanding interpersonal abilities; capable of listening to diverse viewpoints while being persuasive. Experienced in preparing fee proposals, conducting financial analysis, commercial reporting, and risk mitigation strategies.

About the job

As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will serve as the Commercial Lead for a specific Sector or Sub-Sector within our Buildings and Places division. Your role is pivotal in enhancing commercial performance, strategic planning, and ensuring contractual excellence across a varied portfolio of projects.

You will spearhead the operational commercial elements, manage risks, and provide commercial insights to Sector leadership, all while aligning with our business objectives and fostering sustainable growth. This position bridges the operational needs of the business with key corporate functions, including finance, legal, and risk management.

This role uniquely combines strategic commercial oversight with a hands-on management approach, providing you the chance to drive business outcomes across sectors such as infrastructure, defense, commercial, and social infrastructure.

Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working from our key UK&I offices, with the expectation of regular travel to client sites and AECOM regional offices as necessary.

Your Responsibilities:

Leadership & Planning

  • Formulate and execute commercial strategies for our bids that align with Sector/Sub-Sector objectives and growth plans.
  • Advise Sector leadership on potential market risks, opportunities, pricing strategies, and commercial trends to support our bidding efforts.
  • Assist the Head of Commercial in driving innovative practices within the commercial operations.
  • Collaborate with the Buildings and Places commercial team to maintain a consistent approach across Sectors, reporting to the Head of Commercial.

Contract & Risk Management

  • Oversee the negotiation and implementation of prime and subcontracts, NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, and joint venture arrangements in partnership with the legal team.
  • Ensure that all changes are meticulously managed, focusing on the commercial implications of alterations, and generally manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Embed robust risk management procedures throughout both the bidding and delivery phases.
  • Resolve contractual disputes and claims promptly and effectively.
  • Lead the implementation of governance processes within the Sector and liaise with various corporate functions like legal, tax, ORM, and treasury.

Commercial Oversight

  • Supervise and support financial project budgeting while developing an effective project delivery model with project leads aligned to commercial objectives.
  • Provide comprehensive project performance reporting across the portfolio with the finance team’s support.
  • Collaborate with project leads to identify and evaluate changes.
  • Monitor KPIs and cash flow to ensure that commercial targets are met.
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly reports to Sector stakeholders as required.
