The Role
We are seeking a skilled Senior Database Administrator to enhance and maintain our production database environment across PostgreSQL, Oracle, and AWS-managed database services.
This hands-on technical position emphasizes the reliability, performance, availability, security, and automation of our critical databases. You will collaborate closely with engineering, SRE, and security teams to ensure our database systems are consistently stable, scalable, and secure by design.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support production environments spanning PostgreSQL, Oracle, Aurora/RDS, MongoDB, and DocumentDB.
- Guarantee high availability and preparedness for disaster recovery (replication, backups, PITR, and failover testing).
- Execute performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
- Develop and uphold backup/restore protocols and upgrade strategies.
- Monitor database health, defining actionable alerts and dashboards.
- Streamline operational processes through automation and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- Advocate for secure access models and enforce governance standards.
- Engage in incident response and root cause analysis pertinent to database systems.
- Contribute to the creation of database standards, documentation, and operational runbooks.
- Assist developers with schema design, indexing strategies, and performance troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in database administration or database engineering.
- Extensive expertise in PostgreSQL including:
replication (physical/logical),
partitioning,
performance tuning,
PgBouncer / RDS Proxy,
vacuum strategy,
pgvector.
- Solid experience with Oracle including:
backup/restore,
performance tuning,
and other related tasks.
