Are you ready to stretch the boundaries of what’s achievable?We are looking for the following qualifications:Proven experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software (e.g., Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, and/or TUFLOW). Demonstrable understanding of Environment Agency requirements for preparing flood models for risk assessments. Basic knowledge of physico-chemical water quality and the relevant regulatory standards for freshwater. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related field. Professional qualification with CIWEM or a similar organization (or close to obtaining). Practical experience with scripting languages such as Python, Anaconda, or Ruby is a plus. You should also be self-motivated with the capability to work independently when necessary, alongside a strong commitment and eagerness to contribute to team collaboration.

Our Water team is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Flood Modeller to join our vibrant and expanding Water Business Line. This is an opportunity to contribute to significant projects across the UK and beyond while being part of one of the most ambitious and interconnected engineering hubs in northern England.

In this position, you will serve as a senior technical resource, mentoring junior team members and actively enhancing our services for local authorities, water companies, and various public and private sector clients.

Your Responsibilities:

At AECOM, you will play a pivotal role in executing top-notch flood modelling and hydrology projects. Working under general supervision, your tasks will include:

  • Creating and validating hydraulic models using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to facilitate the design of Flood Alleviation Schemes, conduct Flood Risk Assessments, and perform reservoir flood studies.
  • Developing water quality models (physico-chemical, biological, bacterial, or chemical) using industry-standard software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and/or ICM.
  • Conceptualizing and scoping modelling strategies, considering risks and opportunities.
  • Conducting and verifying hydrological assessments, including Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP.
  • Leading and contributing to tenders for innovative projects and multimillion-pound framework contracts.
  • Mentoring team members to foster their professional growth.
  • Building strong client relationships and collaborating across technical disciplines.
  • Staying updated on legislative developments and guidelines affecting our services.
  • Utilizing AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Collaborating closely with clients and engineers on a diverse range of fluvial, coastal, surface water, or drainage flood risk management initiatives.
