Qualifications

Qualified lawyer in the UK with a minimum of 8 years post-qualification experience (PQE). Experience in law firms or in-house legal teams, specifically focusing on financial regulations relevant to payments and financial services. Demonstrated experience in building and scaling legal teams. Ability to distill and communicate legal advice succinctly and pragmatically across various business areas. Strong skills in structuring, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts. Excellent communication, project coordination, and management skills. Proven capability to navigate complex issues and engage with multiple stakeholders, providing insight on key risks and developing effective solutions. A proactive, collaborative approach to problem-solving.

About the job

  • Provide expert legal advice on both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives encompassing financial regulation, consumer protection, payments, banking, marketing, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate closely with various business teams at Wise, including Compliance, Product, Wise Platform, and Banking and Expansion, to foster strong relationships.
  • Establish yourself as a trusted legal advisor on matters such as financial and consumer regulations, sanctions, anti-money laundering (AML), anti-bribery, banking arrangements, new product developments, and partnership agreements.
  • Interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, scalable operational processes and product specifications.
  • Lead comprehensive legal analyses of new and evolving regulatory requirements while driving their implementation with relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage with regulators across multiple jurisdictions by drafting and coordinating regulatory communications, and liaising directly with regulatory authorities.
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate intricate commercial agreements with both financial institutions and enterprise clients.
  • Mentor and enhance the skills of the Legal Team based in various locations including London, New York, Austin, Tallinn, Singapore, Brussels, and São Paulo, ensuring the successful delivery of business-critical initiatives.
  • This position is based in our London office, operating under a hybrid model that requires an average of three days in the office each week.
