About the job

The Role

Join our dynamic Mechanical Department as a Senior Product Design Engineer, where you will spearhead the design and implementation of intricate mechanical subsystems that significantly impact the economics, reliability, and scalability of our innovative core technology. This position encompasses all stages from early-stage research and development (R&D) to new product introduction (NPI) and full-scale deployment, requiring a solid foundation in engineering principles, astute decision-making, and a focus on practical, manufacturable solutions.

You will actively challenge conventional wisdom, meticulously assess trade-offs, and push design and manufacturing boundaries while maintaining a steadfast emphasis on cost-effectiveness, reliability, and long-term operational viability. This role grants you substantial ownership as an individual contributor, showcasing your technical leadership and cross-functional influence.

What You’ll Do

  • Take full ownership of end-to-end design for complex mechanical subsystems, managing everything from requirements definition and architecture to validation, production ramp, and deployment.
  • Enhance subsystem performance across key metrics such as cost, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability, directly influencing $/ton CO₂ economics.
  • Design components for both low and high-volume production using various manufacturing techniques, including sheet metal stamping, casting, roll forming, and extrusions.
  • Lead design trade studies leveraging first-principles analysis, data-driven methodologies, and sound engineering judgment.
  • Create and develop product-level test equipment, fixtures, and validation strategies that support Design for Reliability (DfR), including accelerated life testing, stress testing, and failure-mode-driven validation to guarantee robust subsystem and system performance throughout their intended lifespan.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers, equipment operators, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are resilient, scalable, and ready for production.
  • Produce and review comprehensive 2D drawings with appropriate GD&T, ensuring alignment with production and inspection standards.
  • Facilitate rapid prototyping and iterative development cycles while ensuring adherence to NPI rigor.
  • Serve as a technical mentor within the team, promoting best practices and elevating engineering quality standards.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in designing and delivering products through their entire lifecycle, from concept to production.
  • A strong passion for product design and a commitment to solving complex engineering challenges.
