Overview:
- Lead the identification, design, and development of innovative products and product families.
- Optimize production processes to efficiently utilize materials and personnel.
- Conduct quality testing on finished products and recommend modifications to specifications as needed.
- Handle client-requested changes at a senior level, developing products from concept to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), either on a limited basis as Built to Print (BTP) or as a full development as a Full-Service Supplier (FSS).
- Explore and evaluate new products and extensions, contributing to strategic development.
- Implement discoveries to enhance R&D efforts and ensure competitive positioning.
- Work on research-focused projects and design manufacturing processes and equipment for product implementation.
Position-Specific Requirements:
- Proficient in the design, development, and engineering of interior commodities, including:
- Instrument Panel (IP)
- Door Components
- Floor Consoles
- Hard Trim
- Overhead Systems
- Expertise in key technologies such as:
- Injection Molding
- Lamination techniques (Vac-forming, Press Lamination, Bladder Wrapping)
- Assembly methods (Vibration Welding, Sonic Welding, Heat Staking, Screw/Clip Attachment)
- Knowledge of advanced technologies (Hybrid Injection Molding, Compression Molding, Cut & Sew)
- Understanding processes like Foam In Place, Laser Scoring, Knife Scoring (Sonic or Cold), Punch Trim, Waterjet Trim.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- 5-8 years of relevant experience required.
- Ability to work directly with customers and independently.
- Self-motivated and capable of functioning without constant supervision.
- Proficient in defining general product requirements for customers.
- Effective communication skills for conveying customer needs to support teams and relaying design/tooling criteria back to customers.
- Familiarity with engineering discipline documents (DFMEA, DVP&R, EBOM) and assisting in their creation and maintenance.
