Key Responsibilities:Perform comprehensive hardware security assessments, including fault injection, side-channel analysis, interface evaluations, and bus protocol analyses on Saronic and third-party hardware, covering sensors, radios, navigation systems, propulsion controllers, and communication modules. Evaluate and enhance the security of physical interfaces, debug ports, maintenance access points, and removable media interfaces on vessel hardware. Assess supply chain security risks associated with hardware components, recommending provenance validation, anti-tamper, and attestation controls. Establish and maintain a robust hardware security testing capability, including the development of tooling, methodologies, and repeatable test procedures. Design and implement secure boot chains that establish a hardware root of trust from power-on to application launch, incorporating TPM, secure elements, and HSMs for device identity, key storage, measured boot, and remote attestation. Create and implement secure firmware update mechanisms, ensuring signed updates, rollback protection, and verified delivery across the fleet. Manage the cryptographic key lifecycle for hardware-bound keys, encompassing provisioning, rotation, revocation, and escrow. Fortify embedded Linux systems on vessel platforms, including kernel configuration, mandatory access controls, secure IPC, and reducing the attack surface. Secure operational technology protocols and interfaces utilized in vessel control systems, propulsion, navigation, and sensor fusion, which include CAN bus, NMEA, and other maritime/industrial communication protocols. Establish security boundaries, trust zones, and segmentation strategies to enhance overall security architecture.

In this role, you will serve as the technical authority on hardware root of trust, secure boot processes, firmware integrity, embedded system hardening, and securing third-party hardware integrations. Your efforts will ensure that each component on our vessels remains resilient against tampering, exploitation, and supply chain weaknesses, designed in from the ground up and maintained throughout the fleet's lifecycle.
