Join our dynamic team at AECOM as a Senior Signing, Pavement Marking, and Signalization Engineer. We are looking for an experienced professional to lead the execution of transportation projects across Florida, with a strong emphasis on adhering to FDOT standards, procedures, and requirements. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical expertise in the planning, design, and quality control of signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal systems for complex roadway projects statewide.
The successful candidate will take on the responsibilities of Engineer of Record, mentor and develop junior staff, collaborate with FDOT Districts and local agencies, and ensure compliance with Florida’s design standards, safety objectives, and constructability requirements.
This position supports a hybrid work model, allowing flexibility to work from any of our Florida offices, including Tampa, Orlando, Coral Gables, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, or Tallahassee.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical lead and/or Engineer of Record for projects related to signing, pavement marking, and signalization for FDOT, Turnpike, and local agencies.
- Prepare, review, and seal Signing & Pavement Marking Plans, Signalization Plans, along with necessary quantities, details, and specifications.
- Ensure adherence to:
- FDOT Design Standards
- FDOT Plans Preparation Manual (PPM)
- FDOT Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM)
- MUTCD (Florida Edition)
- FDOT Specifications and Standard Plans
- Lead the creation of:
- Guide signs, overhead sign structures, cantilever and truss signs
- Pavement marking layouts, striping, RPMs, and specialty markings
- Traffic signal systems including mast arms, span wire, detection, interconnect, and ITS elements
- Collaborate with roadway, drainage, lighting, ITS, utilities, and structures disciplines to ensure cohesive and constructible designs.
- Engage directly with FDOT District staff, Turnpike Enterprise, and local agencies during:
- Concept development
- Design reviews
- Plans development
- Comment resolution
- Support design-build pursuits through the development of technical strategies, scope narratives, and preliminary layouts for signing and signalization.
- Oversee QA/QC processes, including independent evaluations of plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers and designers on FDOT standards, best practices, and career development.
- Participate in field reviews, constructability assessments, and post-design support as needed.
