Role overview
The Tampere-based imaging team at Skydio is hiring a Senior or Staff Embedded Software Engineer with a focus on camera systems. This position involves designing and developing camera subsystems for current and upcoming drone platforms. The work centers on building reliable visual systems that enable autonomous flight and deliver critical data to users.
Team focus
The imaging group covers the entire camera system lifecycle: from defining requirements and initial hardware bring-up to tuning and final validation. Collaboration with software engineers across Skydio is central to delivering a dependable camera stack that supports navigation, media capture, and industrial inspection. Projects progress from early prototypes to mass production.
Key responsibilities
- Lead development and integration of camera subsystems for drone platforms
- Design, bring up, and debug ISP and camera hardware
- Configure and fine-tune ISP and encoder pipelines for best performance
- Collaborate with image quality, calibration, and testing teams to deliver production-ready camera software
- Create and improve image processing algorithms that support autonomous flight
- Assist with hardware bring-up and troubleshooting for new platforms and prototypes
Requirements
- Experience in embedded software development
- Strong knowledge of camera hardware and ISP pipelines
- Proficiency with Linux-based systems
- Comfort working collaboratively, especially in settings where priorities may change quickly
