About the job

Waymo is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, dedicated to becoming the world's most trusted driver. Originating as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, we have been committed to developing the Waymo Driver, The World’s Most Experienced Driver™, to enhance mobility access and prevent the tragic loss of lives in traffic accidents. The Waymo Driver powers our fully autonomous ride-hail service, and its applications extend across diverse vehicle platforms and use cases. With over ten million rider-only trips completed, our system has autonomously navigated more than 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulated environments across 15+ U. S. states.

The Software Quality Operations (SWQOps) team plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the safety, reliability, and quality of the Waymo Driver. Our aim is to construct an adaptable and scalable operation, increasingly driven by AI, to provide essential insights necessary for the confident deployment and expansion of Waymo's autonomous vehicle services. In this hybrid position, you will report directly to our Program Manager.

This successful flywheel will serve as the central engine for technology scaling, enabling quicker operational design domain (ODD) expansion, faster resolution of driving issues, and significantly reducing engineering efforts for maintaining and enhancing the driver.
  • Mitigating Risks in New Deployments: By performing meticulous triage of driving events, discovering issues, and conducting continuous field monitoring, SWQOps delivers early warnings and crucial insights. This proactive approach to issue detection ensures operational resilience and safety, especially as Waymo enters new cities and scales platforms like W12.
  • Facilitating Market Entry: Our team is intricately involved in every phase of Waymo's market entry strategy, from city evaluations (OK2Plan) to operational scaling (OK2Scale). We provide essential data analysis, policy formation, and quality assurance to eliminate obstacles in critical milestones, preventing delays in market expansion.
  • Enhancing Engineering Velocity: By managing essential tasks such as performance evaluations, in-depth issue analysis, and data set curation, ...
