Summary and Objective

The Staff Accountant, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, plays a vital role in a growing CPA firm that specializes in financial planning for a national clientele. This position involves extensive data compilation, including bank reconciliations, general ledger management, and the preparation of balance sheets and income statements.

Essential Functions

  1. Prepare and review financial records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental standards.
  2. Establish and maintain accurate records of accounts, entering data into appropriate financial systems.
  3. Document and maintain financial records utilizing current technology solutions.
  4. Apply advanced accounting knowledge to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and facilitate external audits.
  5. Prepare month-end journal entries, assist in financial statement compilation, and reconcile bank statements and general ledgers.
  6. Independently manage audit-quality account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including capital projects and miscellaneous revenue accounts.
  7. Play a critical role in the audit process.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Conduct monthly and quarterly compilations, including bank and credit card account reconciliations, and verify the accuracy of the general ledger.
  2. Prepare after-the-fact payroll summaries and record necessary journal entries.
  3. Reconcile balance sheet accounts with supporting documents through journal entries.
  4. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations during year-end reporting, including Forms 1096 & 1099 preparation.
  5. Collaborate independently with clients to complete financial statements as needed.
