Summary and Objective
The Staff Accountant, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, plays a vital role in a growing CPA firm that specializes in financial planning for a national clientele. This position involves extensive data compilation, including bank reconciliations, general ledger management, and the preparation of balance sheets and income statements.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and review financial records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental standards.
- Establish and maintain accurate records of accounts, entering data into appropriate financial systems.
- Document and maintain financial records utilizing current technology solutions.
- Apply advanced accounting knowledge to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and facilitate external audits.
- Prepare month-end journal entries, assist in financial statement compilation, and reconcile bank statements and general ledgers.
- Independently manage audit-quality account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including capital projects and miscellaneous revenue accounts.
- Play a critical role in the audit process.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Conduct monthly and quarterly compilations, including bank and credit card account reconciliations, and verify the accuracy of the general ledger.
- Prepare after-the-fact payroll summaries and record necessary journal entries.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts with supporting documents through journal entries.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations during year-end reporting, including Forms 1096 & 1099 preparation.
- Collaborate independently with clients to complete financial statements as needed.
