Our organization believes that diversity and inclusion are essential to our mission, and we actively seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented individuals from a wide-ranging candidate pool.

Our Mission:

Our Children’s Trust is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to providing strategic, campaign-oriented legal services to youth from diverse backgrounds in order to secure their legal rights to a safe and stable climate. Our work aims to protect the Earth’s climate system for present and future generations by representing young individuals in global legal campaigns that advocate for their legally enforceable rights to a healthy atmosphere and stable climate, grounded in the best available science. We support our youth clients and amplify their voices in strategic legal actions that involve targeted media, education, and public engagement. Our legal efforts – informed by constitutional, public trust, human rights laws, and the laws of nature – strive for science-based climate recovery planning and remedies at federal, state, and global levels. We are committed to achieving legally binding, nationwide and/or statewide science-based Climate Recovery Plans that aim to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide levels to below 350 ppm by the year 2100.

Position Summary:

This is a voluntary, unpaid internship designed to provide essential support for Our Children’s Trust's strategic initiatives in Washington, DC.

As a Government Affairs Intern, you will directly assist in Our Children’s Trust’s legal efforts concerning federal actions, including the constitutional and public trust climate case initiated against the federal government by 21 young plaintiffs in Juliana v. United States. Interns will engage in a variety of projects and will be integral to our operations. We value careful, accurate, and self-directed work and are looking for motivated interns who exhibit strong research, writing, and communication skills, and who can work independently, take initiative, demonstrate flexibility, and think creatively to develop innovative solutions.
