Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age. Strong foundation in mathematics, with the ability to assist in advanced concepts. Preferred experience or a keen interest in working with younger students. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. A nurturing and encouraging attitude to foster a comfortable learning environment. Highly organized and detail-oriented. Familiarity with AoPS curriculum is a plus, but not a requirement.

Join our AoPS Academy in Irvine as a Summer Camp Elementary Math Teaching Assistant!

Are you passionate about fostering a collaborative and dynamic learning environment for students? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support: Collaborate with instructors to implement the pre-designed curriculum, aiding advanced students in understanding intricate mathematical concepts.
  • Individualized Student Assistance: Provide one-on-one support to students during activities, offering additional help when necessary.
  • Classroom Oversight: Assist in organizing a productive learning space and manage a classroom of up to 16 students.
  • Assignment Assistance: Aid in grading assignments and delivering constructive feedback on student submissions.
  • Relationship Building: Connect with students and team members to inspire academic growth and curiosity.
  • Learning Environment Promotion: Contribute to a setting that encourages critical thinking and intellectual engagement.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Strong mathematical skills with the ability to assist students in navigating advanced topics.
  • Experience or interest in working with younger students is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • A positive and supportive demeanor that encourages students to ask questions freely.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is an advantage, but not mandatory.

Note:

  • Prior teaching experience or coursework in education is not required for this role.

Summer Schedule:

  • Multiple two-week camps are available from June to August.
  • Camps run Monday to Friday for 3 hours each day, with options for both morning and afternoon classes.

Available Camp Sessions for Teaching Assistant Support - Elementary Math:

  • June 15 - June 26: Mornings 8am-1pm, Afternoons 1-5pm
  • July 6 - July 17: Mornings 8am-1pm, Afternoons 1-5pm
  • July 20 - July 31: Mornings 8am-1pm, Afternoons 1-5pm
