Minimum Qualifications - RequiredEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: A minimum of two (2) years (equivalent to 4,000 hours) as a licensed pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy, or a combination of relevant training and experience. ANDLICENSE: Must possess a valid Registered Pharmacist license from the California State Board of Pharmacy (please include a copy with your application). License status must be current as verified via https://search.dca.ca.gov/. SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Some positions may require specific qualifications that may differ from the standard criteria. A minimum of one (1) year of recent and verifiable inpatient pharmacy experience within the last five years.

As a key member of the San Francisco Department of Public Health, the Supervising Pharmacist plays a crucial role in overseeing pharmaceutical services to ensure optimal patient care, effective drug therapy, and adherence to all regulatory standards. This position encompasses a range of essential functions including:

  • Leading, supervising, and organizing the work schedules of assigned staff, conducting performance evaluations, and administering disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Designing, implementing, and assessing pharmaceutical services to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Interpreting and contributing to the formulation and execution of departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Engaging in effective communication with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, as well as the general public.
  • Compiling and maintaining comprehensive reports, memoranda, and records.
  • Participating in managerial decisions, including budget development.
  • Mentoring and training staff to foster their professional growth.
  • Executing professional pharmacist duties as needed.
  • Managing the procurement of pharmaceuticals and supplies while maintaining accurate inventory levels.
