Role Overview
As the State Medical Director, you will be a certified physician leader specializing in wound management, responsible for overseeing clinical quality and performance across the state. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, you will uphold the highest standards of wound care delivery within our innovative in-home physician practice model.
This role combines extensive wound care knowledge with operational excellence, hands-on mentorship of newer providers, and direct involvement in patient care. The State Medical Director will actively engage in clinical practice while steering statewide performance, enhancing provider capabilities, and fostering health plan collaborations.
This is a dynamic physician leadership role, rooted in direct patient interaction, driven by tangible outcomes, and accountable for significant results.
Core Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care (40%)
- Administer wound care services both in-home and via a proprietary audio-visual platform for live supervision and real-time clinical collaboration with Nurse Practitioners.
- Conduct thorough evaluations, provide mentorship, and develop evidence-based treatment plans for complex wound cases, including venous ulcers, pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, and post-surgical wounds.
- Engage in structured ride-alongs with field clinicians to demonstrate clinical excellence, uphold documentation standards, and ensure patient-centered communication.
Clinical Leadership & Mentorship (30%)
- Oversee all wound care services provided across the state, including regular chart reviews, case audits, and peer evaluations.
- Act as the clinical escalation point for Nurse Practitioners and physicians, providing structured feedback and coaching focused on mastering wound care fundamentals.
- Lead efforts in recruitment, onboarding, performance assessments, and provider development while promoting a culture of trust, integrity, and accountability.
Health Plan Engagement & KPI Management (20%)
- Collaborate with executive leadership to manage relationships with health plans and health systems, representing a credible clinical voice in value-based care discussions.
