Role Overview The Senior AI Threat Researcher joins the X-Ops Insights team within the Security organization, reporting directly to the CISO. This role sits at the intersection of applied AI, threat intelligence, and cyber operations. The focus: advancing Sophos’s understanding of how adversaries use and abuse AI technologies, and helping the company stay ahead of emerging risks. What You Will Do Investigate how threat actors use, weaponize, and exploit AI, including LLM-based social engineering, automated vulnerability discovery, and attacks on agentic AI systems. Develop telemetry and detection tools to identify adversarial AI in the field. Assess and track new threats as AI capabilities evolve. Produce original research to inform Sophos and the wider cybersecurity community. Lead efforts to improve operational efficiency across the Insights team by integrating new tools and techniques. Collaborate with the Sr. Manager of Threat Research, CTU researchers, SophosLabs malware analysts, MDR threat hunters, incident responders, engineering, and data science teams.
