Role Overview: Backend Engineer (Remote, Estonia)
This role focuses on backend development for a new security initiative. The Backend Engineer will join a small team working on cryptography, automation, and AI-driven analysis. The work involves hands-on coding, close collaboration with senior engineers, and regular interaction with product and design colleagues. There is a strong emphasis on learning, teamwork, and contributing to a secure, reliable codebase.
What You Will Do
- Design, build, and ship features across the product lifecycle
- Write clean, maintainable backend code for systems deployed on AWS or GCP
- Work with experts in AI and cryptography
- Collaborate with the product manager to turn requirements into architecture, data flows, API specs, and testing plans
- Follow engineering standards and participate in process and quality discussions
- Iterate on features based on customer feedback
- Create automated tests for load, performance, and error handling
Requirements
- At least 5 years of backend software engineering experience
- Strong skills in TypeScript
- Experience with AWS container technologies (EKS, ECS) and serverless systems
- Knowledge of relational, key/value, and graph databases, including schema management
- Background in API design, data modeling, secure service development, and database systems
- Focus on quality code, solid error handling, and high availability
- Practical, thoughtful approach to technical problem-solving
- Upper-intermediate spoken and written English
