Position Overview
The Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly and fabrication of semiconductor materials, electronic components, subassemblies, products, and systems. This role involves performing routine work assignments that require sound judgment and precision. While primarily based in Jessup, MD, occasional duties at other Thorlabs locations may be required.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Interpreting work orders, following production drawings, and utilizing sample assemblies.
- Positioning and aligning parts according to specified relationships.
- Assembling devices from various components, including semiconductor devices, ceramic submounts, optical elements (e.g., lenses, isolators), and electrical components (e.g., resistors, capacitors).
- Executing assembly tasks such as cleaning, epoxy bonding, fiber attachment, seam sealing, and conducting device testing and final packaging.
- Performing basic failure analysis and collaborating with engineering teams to resolve issues and enhance processes.
- Operating machinery for assembly and testing of components and devices.
- Adjusting materials from components to meet specified electrical or dimensional requirements.
- Conducting online go-no-go testing and inspections to ensure compliance with production specifications and standards.
- Demonstrating dexterity and precision in handling fragile objects and performing intricate movements.
- Maintaining production throughput as directed by supervisors.
- Communicating any production issues to supervisory staff.
