About this Role
We are seeking a passionate and hands-on individual to join our team as a Junior/Associate Lab Technician. In this role, you will be integral to the fabrication and assembly of components for our state-of-the-art muon-catalyzed fusion research apparatus. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive experience across various domains of our research, including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and vacuum systems. It is perfect for someone enthusiastic about building and eager to contribute to groundbreaking fusion research.
Your Responsibilities:
- Experimental Assembly & Monitoring: Construct and assemble precision components, conduct leak tests on vacuum hardware, and assist in monitoring experiments during active runs.
- Fabrication & Machining: Program and operate CNC mills, lathes, and 3D printers to create prototype parts. (Training on advanced CNC workflows will be provided to the right candidate).
- Shop Stewardship: Support the setup, organization, and safety protocols of our machine shop in Cambridge.
- Field Integration: Collaborate with the team during several weeks of travel each year to install, align, and troubleshoot mechanical systems at partner labs located in Switzerland, Vancouver, and New York.
- Design Support: Work alongside scientists and engineers to enhance designs for manufacturability.
Qualifications:
- Recent graduate with a degree in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in a technical laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- A strong maker background with a portfolio of projects that showcase your skills.
- Familiarity with CAD software and experience with CNC machining, or a strong desire to learn.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
