The Biorepository Technician I plays a crucial role in the organization by supporting the shipment, receipt, retrieval, and preservation of biological samples received daily or stored within our biorepository.
Key Responsibilities:
- Freezer Monitoring:
- Respond to freezer alarms per standard operating procedures.
- Monitor temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and rooms as designated by the Manager.
- Biological Sample Receipt:
- Unpack specimens and document all relevant information in the Incoming Shipment Batch and incoming folder.
- Create a folder to store all associated paperwork.
- Store samples at the appropriate temperature according to established guidelines.
- Distribute confirmation of shipment receipt forms as required by the project.
- Inventory Management:
- Verify the contents of incoming shipments against packing lists.
- Quarantine raw materials pending release by the QA department.
- Frozen Biological Sample Inventory:
- Check information on sample vials against data provided by study sites.
- Scan samples into the BSI data management system.
- Correct any paperwork discrepancies and notify the supervisor/manager by generating a discrepancy report.
- Assist in the inventory of returned specimens.
- Aliquot frozen specimens using aseptic techniques.
- Sample Retrieval and Shipment:
- Pull samples according to requisitions, SOPs, and instructions.
- Conduct quality control verification for outgoing samples.
- Update the Outgoing Batch Record.
- Contact receiving laboratories to confirm shipping addresses and availability for sample receipt.
- Ship samples (both dangerous and non-dangerous goods) via commercial or local courier services.
- Complete all necessary paperwork, including link-up forms, aliquot forms, return forms, and BSI data collection sheets.
- Miscellaneous Duties:
- Label vials and shipping boxes accurately.
- Conduct dry shipper quality control checks.
- Stay updated on IATA Shipping Regulations and maintain necessary certifications and standards.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
