This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a brand-new ICU service and significantly shape the delivery of critical care in a burgeoning regional center.
The Opportunity
This position transcends a conventional consultant role; it is an invitation to build, influence, and lead within a newly established critical care framework.
- Be part of a majorly redeveloped health campus featuring an investment of approximately $190M.
- Join at the inaugural phase of a new 8-bed ICU and HDU, slated to open in mid-2026.
- Play a pivotal role in designing care models, governance, and service delivery.
- Engage in close collaboration with the Emergency Department, inpatient teams, and regional retrieval pathways.
- Emphasize leadership, mentorship, and service development.
About the Hospital
Geraldton Regional Hospital serves as a crucial regional referral center within WA’s Midwest:
- Approximately 100+ bed regional hospital (currently expanding through redevelopment).
- Acts as a regional hub (Tier 2 capability), supporting surrounding communities.
- Offers services in Emergency, General Medicine, Surgery, Mental Health, and is now amplifying Critical Care.
- New infrastructure includes ICU, ED upgrades, and enhanced inpatient facilities.
- Strong connections with regional and tertiary referral networks.
The ICU will support a diverse case mix, providing a genuine clinical variety rarely found in metropolitan units.
Salary & Benefits
- Total compensation: approximately $412,000 – $523,000+ per annum (inclusive of 12% superannuation + professional development allowance, based on experience).
- Additional salary banding available from $333,000 – $432,000 base range, depending on contract structure.
- 4 weeks of annual leave + 3 weeks of professional development leave.

Requirements
- Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (or equivalent).
- Eligibility for specialist registration with AHPRA.
- Considerable experience in ICU settings within comparable healthcare systems.
- Able to contribute to clinical leadership, governance, and education.
